It’s time for the 4th annual Barking Day pet adoption festival on W 103 & Bway from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Rain date is the following Sunday.
This paw-fectly popular event is the place to find a new dog or kitty. If you have one or more, bring ‘em!
Dress your pet in your favorite “ugly sweater,” and win a prize from a local pet shop. Get a sketch of you and your pet by talented artists from LaGuardia High School. Enjoy kid’s games and a doggy photo booth. All while enjoying the tunes of some of the best neighborhood singers, including Lizzie Blasquez, Jules Avalon, and Nerquila.
As always, this event supports and is made possible by the Animal Care Centers of NYC (NYACC). If you’re looking to donate pet food, toys, or money to this amazing organization, we’d be so grateful. Additional sponsorship and support from Council Member Shaun Abreu, the Columbus-Amsterdam BID, Park to Park 103, and the West 102-103 Streets Block Association.
We received generous food and toy donations for prizes from PetQua, Little Creatures Store on Columbus and Puppy Tale Lodge (for one full dog grooming session) on the East Side.
All Barking Day activities are FREE! (Pet adoption fees are listed below.)
PET ADOPTIONS
The Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) will be there with their MOBILE ADOPTION TRUCK with adoptable dogs and cats looking for their forever homes.
Only select animals will attend Barking Day, but you can view ALL adoptable animals available from the ACC in advance on their Adoption Search page.
PET ADOPTIONS are on a first-come-first-served basis. Lines typically start about 1 hour prior to the event’s start.

To help ensure a smooth process, complete a general adoption application in advance:
ADOPTION FEES:
ACC waives fees for military vets & seniors adopting senior pets.
Adopters with an IDNYC card receive $25 off adoption fees.
Dogs & Puppies:
- 6 mos & under: $250
- 7 mos & over: $75
- Small dogs (20lbs & Under) 7 mos & over: $150
*NYC residents must purchase $8.50 – $34 dog license
Cats & Kittens:
- 6 mos & under: $175
- 7 mos – 4 years: $75
- 5 years & over: $25
- Two Kittens: $200
ACC provides a comprehensive adoption package that includes:
- Spaying or neutering your new pet
- Initial wellness vaccinations
- Certificate for a free exam a participating veterinarian practice
- Pre-registered Microchip
- Collar for cats and dogs

DONATE ITEMS:
Drop your items off at BARKING DAY. The Mobile Adoption Truck will be taking collections during the entire event.
ACC will accept new & second-hand pet items. They ask that any used items are cleaned prior to donating. ACC can accept:
- Unopened and unexpired food and treats
- Blankets, Towels, Sheets
- Leashes and Harnesses
- Crates and Carriers
- Enrichment Toys
- Unopened Litter, Pellets, and Hay

Purchase needed items directly from ACC’s wish lists with Chewy and Amazon, and they will be shipped to animals in need in ACC Care Centers.
